We are incredibly fortunate to have Mr. Scott Krijnen leading Castillero’s orchestra program. Mr. Krijnen has taught at Castillero Middle School since 2005 and brings a wealth of experience, artistry, and dedication to his students.

A Presser Scholar at the University of Idaho, Mr. Krijnen earned his Master’s degree in Cello Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he received the Chamber Music Award. His excellence as an educator has also been widely recognized. In 2011, he was named Castillero’s Teacher of the Year, and in 2016, he received the Richard L. Levin Orchestra Educator of the Year Award for the state of California.

Beyond Castillero, Mr. Krijnen has served as conductor and artistic director of the Cambrian Symphony since 2013. He also conducted San José State University’s “Summer in the City” program for ten years and has appeared as a guest conductor with Saratoga High School and the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. In June 2023, he became the musical director of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra.

We are excited to welcome both new and returning students and families for another inspiring school year. We look forward to a wonderful year filled with music, performances, friendships, and unique learning opportunities.

Castillero Middle School offers four orchestra groups, giving students the opportunity to participate in school concerts, community performances, and spring music festivals while growing as musicians and becoming part of a vibrant and supportive orchestra community.
