The Saxophone

The saxophone is a member of the woodwind family even though it is made almost entirely of metal. The saxophone's sound is produced by a single vibrating reed just like the clarinet. It is a versatile and widely used instrument and plays important parts in bands, jazz groups, and small ensembles. Members of the saxophone family include the alto, tenor, baritone, and soprano saxophones.

Important Note: The saxophone is a very popular instrument with students. Because we must maintain well-balanced instrumentation in bands at all grade levels, it may be necessary to limit the number of saxophone students we start each year. Thus, we encourage students to review all of the instruments that we offer because we may not be able to accommodate their first choice.
