How long have you been playing?

3-4 yrs

What sparked your interest in playing this instrument?

When I went to the Castillero orientation, I saw the Castillero Chamber orchestra perform. I had never thought about joining an orchestra before, but there was something about the orchestra that inspired me. When they did the petting zoo afterwards, my friend's older sister came up to me and gave me her viola. I’d never heard of it before, but I loved the sound it produced.

What is your favorite musical piece that you've played?

I absolutely love Simple Symphony!

What type of music do you most like to play and why?

I really like to play pop music and Christian pop/contemporary music.

What is giving/gave you the most trouble while learning, and what advice would you give to others having similar difficulties?

At first, I had a hard time having a good contact point and keeping it near the bridge. I later learnt to use my wrist more and really focused on playing whole notes with a full and clear sound. It’s always best to play slowly and really focus on your tone and your bow placement.

Any words of wisdom or encouragement for your peers?

Enjoy Castillero and never give up. I’m having the best time, and orchestra is definitely the highlight of my every day.
