Kalvi is being recognized for a variety of reasons, including her incredible leadership as a violinist, her consistency in preparation, and her generous nature and willingness to help those around her. As a TA, she is always engaged, has found the balance of strength, support, and flexibility with her students, and is an excellent communicator. Kalvi is always kind towards others, and as one of our strongest musicians, she maintains humility, demonstrating to others the best way to carry ourselves. Her impact will continue to grow, and I am so proud of the person she is becoming!

How long have you been playing?

5+ yrs

What sparked your interest in playing this instrument?

Everyone in my family had played it before, and the school Orchestra seemed really fun.

What is your favorite musical piece that you've played?

Fugue in G minor by Bach

What type of music do you most like to play and why?

Classical, because I love the depth of the pieces, and jazz, because I love the vibe and energy.

What is giving/gave you the most trouble while learning, and what advice would you give to others having similar difficulties?

The toughest thing for me was breaking the bad habits I developed because they were simpler and faster to do at the time. Some advice to not do this is just don’t be lazy and listen to what your teachers are telling you. Even if it seems hard in the moment, it’ll help you in the long run.
