Comment from Mr. Krijnen:

Your consistency, thoughtfulness, and positive presence in 4th period make you such a valuable part of our classroom community. I especially appreciate the initiative you take and the example you set for those around you. Your contributions to Avant and Chamber reflect the same sense of commitment and responsibility. You are a wonderful T.A., an outstanding violist, and absolutely deserving of this recognition. Well done and thank you for always being such a positive influence in our orchestra community!

How long have you been playing?

3-4 yrs

What sparked your interest in playing this instrument?

I didn't want to play a big instrument, because it seemed like a hassle to transport it. But I didn't want to play the violin because everyone plays violin - so I play viola and am really happy with my choice.

What is your favorite musical piece that you've played?

My favorite piece is Vanishing Pointe. I like how the music follows a story about a magician; it's adventurous, playful, and full of life.

What type of music do you most like to play and why?

I like playing more classical music, because it feels like a challenge. It also makes me feel like a real musician, not just a middle schooler. I also enjoy any music written for a character or story - putting something from imagination to sound always makes me feel like there is a purpose to my playing.

What is giving/gave you the most trouble while learning, and what advice would you give to others having similar difficulties?

Playing without tension was really hard for me; even now I have to make sure to stay relaxed and not worry so much about playing the right notes and just enjoying the flow of the music. I always remind myself that as long as I'm better than yesterday, I'm doing a good job.

Any words of wisdom or encouragement for your peers?

Don't worry so much about how you compare to other people or what others think of you. Make sure you put yourself into everything you do and be proud of what you accomplish.
