Name: Siobhan
Grade: 8th
Level: Avant/Chamber
Instrument: Violin
Comment from Mr. Krijnen:
Siobhan was chosen for many reasons - her outstanding leadership as a violinist, her consistent preparation, and her generous spirit, which she brings to everyone around her. As a TA, she is always fully engaged, offering the students a wonderful balance of strength, support, and flexibility. Her clarity and maturity in communication set a remarkable example for others.
Siobhan's kindness is unwavering, and despite being one of our strongest musicians, she remains humble, showing others what leadership can look like. Her positive impact continues to grow, and I am proud of the person she is becoming!!
How long have you been playing?
3-4 yrs
What sparked your interest in playing this instrument?
I liked how high the range of the instrument went and how many opportunities they had. I also didn’t know many people who played violin, so I thought it would be cool.
What is your favorite musical piece that you've played?
Plink, Plank, Plunk! by Leroy Anderson
What type of music do you most like to play and why?
I like classical because every time you play a piece by a different composer, it’s such a different experience and it’s so cool. I also like jazz because of the cool rhythms and pieces it has.
What is giving/gave you the most trouble while learning, and what advice would you give to others having similar difficulties?
Something I had the most trouble with was my bow. I could never keep it close to the bridge or parallel, but I worked on it for a while and now it’s a lot better. If someone is struggling with that, I would say don’t give up even if you feel like nothing changed.
Any words of wisdom or encouragement for your peers?
Don’t give up no matter what and always give your all to the pieces.
